On 7 August members of the CPF Team spent the afternoon volunteering at Spitalfields City Farm helping to maintain and improve the community space and provide a positive social impact on the local community.
Situated 0.8 miles from one of the Fund's BREEAM Excellent assets (122 Back Church Lane), Spitalfields City Farm was originally set up by volunteers in 1978 and still heavily relies on volunteers today to help maintain the farm and gardens, look after the animals and assist in delivering projects. It aims to:
- give people the opportunity to become members of their community and encourage participation in the development of the farm
- explore and promote the benefits of healthy and sustainable lifestyles
- sustainably manage natural ecosystems for the benefit of local wildlife and as a resource for education and recreation
- promote biodiversity and approaches which people can take to help improve environments for wildlife
- provide children and young people with a safe, stimulating and inclusive space in which to play and to connect with nature
